Historical Civil Rights Walk Footprints Project Completed
The City has completed the extension of the footprints project in time for the annual “The Walk” event on Monday, January 15th. A path of footsteps that commemorates the Albany Civil Rights Movement that led to Martin Luther King, Jr.’s walk of 1961.

The Mayor and Commissioners approved the separation of Albany Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) from the Albany Chamber of Commerce. The ACVB will become an Independent Non-Profit 501(C) (6) Corporation.

Holiday Closing Notice
City administrative offices and utilities services will remain open until close of business on Friday, December 22nd. However, the offices and utilities will be closed Monday, December 25th and Tuesday, December 26th for the Christmas Holiday.

South Westover Boulevard Closed for Norfolk Southern Railroad Maintenance
Norfolk Southern Railway is scheduled to begin Thursday, December 21st at 10:00 AM. They will be putting down the surface asphalt and the process is expected to take two hours. This will affect traffic going North bound and South bound on South Westover Boulevard at the railroad crossing.

South Westover Boulevard Closed for Norfolk Southern Railroad Maintenance
The Engineering Department has been informed that Norfolk Southern Railway will be replacing, repaving and performing general maintenance on their railroad and railroad crossings on South Westover Boulevard that will require the street to be closed on Sunday, December 17th.

Turn Off Lawn Sprinkler Systems During Freezing Temperatures
The City would like for citizens to make safety a priority. To prevent icing of roads and sidewalks, it is advised that lawn sprinkler systems be turned off while the city experiences the freezing temperatures that are being forecasted this weekend.

City Invests in Resurfacing Streets Using Pennies
At the November 28th City Commission meeting, the Mayor and Commissioners approved a six year plan to resurface city streets. The six year, $17.5 million program will be funded utilizing SPLOST VII funds and State sponsored Local Maintenance Improvement Grant (LMIG) funds.
