Meetings of the Albany Dougherty Planning Commission and the City of Albany Board of Commissioners are open to the public.
Those wishing to speak or provide comments should contact the Planning & Development Services Department at (229) 438-3901, Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., in advance of the meeting for additional information regarding access to the virtual meeting. A citizen comment form can also be submitted through the City’s website www.albanyga.gov for citizens desiring to make comments. The public hearing will also be open to the public and will be held in Room 100 of the Government Center at 222 Pine Avenue, Albany, GA; however, it is recommended due to the pandemic and social distancing requirements that only a few people be designated to speak. Georgia law requires that all parties who have made campaign contributions to any member of the Board of Commissioners in excess of two hundred fifty dollars ($250) within two (2) years immediately preceding the filing of this request and who desire to appear at the public hearing in opposition to the application, shall, at least five (5) days prior to the public hearing, file a campaign contribution report with the Albany Dougherty Planning Commission.
As set forth in the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the City of Albany does not discriminate on the basis of disability in the admission or access to or treatment or employment in its programs or activities. The Human Resources Department has been designated to coordinate compliance with the non-discrimination requirements contained in section 35.107 of the Department of Justice Regulations. Information concerning the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the rights provided there, is available at the office of Human Resources.
The City of Albany will assist citizens with special needs given proper notice (7 working days). The Planning & Development Services Department is comprised of two divisions: Planning & Zoning, and Development Services (Inspection). We are dedicated to promoting the improvement, conservation, and revitalization of Albany and Dougherty’s physical and social environment. The Department also serves as professional and administrative staff to DARTS, the Dougherty Area Regional Transportation Study, which is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) serving the area. Planning & Zoning is responsible for the administration of local ordinances that govern all uses and development of land within the City of Albany and unincorporated Dougherty County. This includes the development and administration of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan, Zoning Ordinance, Site Plan and Subdivision Ordinances, Floodplain Management Plan and Floodplain Ordinances, and Sign Ordinances. The staff also provides support to several citizen commissions and boards, including Planning Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, Albany Dougherty Land Bank and Floodplain Management Review Board.
Development Services strives to provide the highest quality of public service while ensuring compliance with the Georgia State Building Code and other applicable local codes and ordinances. We serve as a resource of information for our residents, design professionals, contractors, builders, and developers to ensure that the built environment is constructed and maintained in a safe, energy efficient, and accessible manner.
