The Arborist is charged with protecting the City’s tree canopy on public property throughout the City of Albany. Protecting and permitting the removal of trees located on private property can be done either under a site plan permit or through a commercial application to remove dead, dying, diseased, or hazardous trees.
The Arborist conducts site plan reviews related to trees and verifies trees to be removed. The Arborist also inspects public dead, dying, diseased and hazardous trees, investigates illegal tree destruction or removal, provides tree related information to the City’s Tree Board, and inspects commercial properties before Final Certificate of Occupancy (CO) certificates are issued.
