The Utility Engineering Division provides engineering services and support duties for Albany Utilities which includes the Water, Gas, Light and Telecom utilities. This division’s primary responsibility is to provide design and project management for new utility construction and maintenance of existing utility infrastructure, while also coordinating with architects and engineers on utility needs for new commercial and residential developments within the City and into Dougherty and Lee Counties.
Tasks completed by this division:
- Site plan review through Planning and Development
- Review and issue City right-of-way encroachment permits for proposed utilities
- Review and issue utility permits for attaching to City power poles
- Manage pole attachments and transfers through the National Joint Utilities Notification System (NJUNS)
- Georgia Department of Transportation right-of-way encroachment permits for utility installation
- Estimates for extending fiber optic and natural gas utility infrastructure
- Commercial water tap and meter estimates
- Assist natural gas division with maintaining federal and state regulations
- Construction design jobs for utility installation
- Designing and coordinating utility installations for new commercial and residential developments
- Edit and maintain current utility infrastructure mapping
- Miscellaneous support for all utility divisions
