W. Nathaniel Norman began with the City of Albany in 1996 as a part of the Albany Police Department. During the Regional Police Academy at Abraham & Baldwin Agriculture College he was elected as President of the 136th Session. At the Albany Police Department he served as a General & Specialized Peace Officer Standards Training (P.O.S.T.) Instructor, Field Training Officer, and Community Oriented Policing Officer for District II. In 2005 he was appointed Marshal through the City’s Finance Department. There he managed business and alcohol licenses in the city and county.
In 2015, Norman was selected as the Director/Marshal of the City’s newest department, License & Business Support. This department consists of the Treasury and Marshal’s Divisions. He is responsible for the oversight of small business practices, finding available resources, and monitoring taxing procedures and enforcement.
As a native of Flint, Michigan, Norman found his home in Albany, Georgia after serving in the United States Marine Corps for ten years and serving as a Deputy Sheriff for the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office. He is a graduate of Columbia Southern University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/ Management.
